About 13 miles north of Malibu through Malibu Canyon, although not technically in Malibu the Old Place still makes the list. Opening in 1970, it has become an iconic part of the Santa Monica Mountains and a Sunday afternoon tradition for motorcycle riders. The owner, Tom Runyon came from New York to Hollywood as a child with his mother who was an artist and a
widow. During the late 1930s they moved to the outskirts of the Malibu coast where he grew up and developed a love for the area. Today Tom’s son Morgan Runyon still owns the Old Place along with Cornell Winery, a beloved gem to locals!
